Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal says India’s growth must align with sustainability and global quality standards.

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal emphasised that sustainability is “non-negotiable” in India’s growth journey, while highlighting the role of global standards in driving quality, trade, and cooperation.
Speaking at the inauguration of the IEC General Meeting Exhibition organised by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Goyal said India’s growth model rests on respect for nature and a commitment to responsible development. He stressed that harmonised global standards not only ensure product quality but also expand open markets and strengthen international collaboration.
The minister underlined that quality enhances efficiency, reduces costs, and safeguards consumers, adding that India has shifted from voluntary adoption of standards to stricter Quality Control Orders in critical sectors. Citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Zero Defect, Zero Effect” vision, Goyal said the government is working in mission mode to foster a nationwide culture of quality and sustainability.
He also pointed to the electrical and electronic industry as central to India’s push for energy efficiency and climate action.
