Integrated State and City Logistics Plans aim to boost supply chain efficiency under SMILE with ADB support.

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal has unveiled a set of initiatives to modernise India’s logistics ecosystem as part of the Make in India decade celebrations. Central to this launch is the roll-out of Integrated State and City Logistics Plans under the SMILE (Strengthening Multimodal and Integrated Logistics Ecosystem) programme, starting with eight cities across eight states in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank.
The exercise will assess current logistics infrastructure, identify gaps, and provide a structured roadmap to improve efficiency, lower costs, and strengthen supply chain competitiveness. The long-term goal is to expand the model nationwide, ensuring smoother goods movement and improved resilience across sectors.
The initiatives are anchored by DPIIT and complement reforms already achieved through the National Logistics Policy and the PM GatiShakti Master Plan. These frameworks have provided states with tools to develop their own logistics strategies. By adopting a programmatic approach, the Centre now aims to align local plans with national priorities, advancing India’s ambition of building a globally competitive logistics sector.
