Northeast Frontier Railway registered a 6.71 per cent growth in the last financial year, 2022-23, unloading 14,680 freight-carrying rakes. Of these, 1,352 freight-carrying rakes were unloaded during March 2023. During March, the Railway carried commodities like sugar, salt, rice, food grains, edible oil, fertiliser, coal, cement, fruits, vegetables, tank, auto, containers and other items. It unloaded them in separate sheds within its jurisdiction.
During March, 734 rakes of freight-carrying trains were unloaded in Assam, including 341 loaded with essential commodities. Besides, 247 freight rakes in Bihar, 215 in West Bengal, 117 in Tripura, 22 in Nagaland, 8 in Arunachal Pradesh, 7 in Manipur, and 2 rakes in Mizoram were unloaded during the same month.
The quick execution of doubling works on major sections of the N.F. Railways led to increased inward and outward freight movement.
