Union Minister Nitin Gadkari earmarks a substantial budget for Goa’s National Highways, signaling a transformative phase in the state’s infrastructure landscape and economic outlook.
Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, has unveiled a notable budget of ₹766.42 crore dedicated to the improvement of National Highways in Goa. This financial infusion is set to catalyse crucial infrastructure projects, promising to rejuvenate the state’s economic, tourism, and transportation sectors.
The spotlight of this initiative is on the construction of a 4-lane flyover from MES College Junction to Bogmalo Junction, spanning 3.35 kilometers along NH-566, with a budget allocation of ₹455.50 crore. The project aims to streamline traffic and alleviate congestion. Additionally, a 4-lane Vehicular Underpass (VUP) at Queeny Nagar Junction, covering 1.22 kilometers under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode, will enhance regional connectivity.
A significant project in the pipeline is the ₹310.92 crore Cuncolim Bypass, covering 8.33 kilometers on NH-66. Part of the Annual Plan 2023-24, it plays a pivotal role in expediting the Mumbai to Kanyakumari Economic Corridor, reducing congestion, accidents, and enhancing access to key destinations.
These infrastructural upgrades are poised to revolutionise Goa’s transportation landscape, aiming to reduce Vehicle Operating Costs (VOC), enhance service levels, and decrease travel time. The ripple effects are expected to boost economic growth, tourism, and job opportunities in the state.
The strategic positioning of these projects aligns with the Mumbai to Kanyakumari Economic Corridor, positioning Goa as a crucial link, not only domestically but also in the broader South Asian region.
These projects hold the potential to shape Goa’s future, making it more accessible, safer, and economically vibrant. As the state anticipates the impact of these developments, stakeholders across various sectors eagerly await the transformative effects, which could set a precedent for infrastructural development nationwide, showcasing the power of strategic planning and investment in driving regional growth.
