DGFT issues updated export procedures for organic products under NPOP, effective in 180 days.
In a major update, the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has notified a new procedure for the export of certified organic products under the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023. This announcement supersedes earlier public notices from 2014 and 2015.
Key highlights include:
- Certification Standards: Only products produced, processed, packed, and labelled as per the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) standards are eligible for export.
- Mandatory Transaction Certificate: Exported organic products must be accompanied by a Transaction Certificate issued by an NAB-accredited certification body.
- Implementation Timeline: The 8th edition of the NPOP standards will come into effect 180 days from the issuance of this notification.
