MoPSW launched MAR-a-THON 2025 at IIT Madras to drive maritime innovation, start-ups, and entrepreneurship under S2I2.

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), in partnership with IIT Madras and allied agencies, launched MAR-a-THON 2025 – India’s Maritime Hackathon on Monday. The event, organised under the Sagarmala Start-up Innovation Initiative (S2I2), aims to strengthen Research, Innovation, Start-ups, and Entrepreneurship (RISE) in the maritime domain. It also marked the curtain-raiser for India Maritime Week 2025.
Addressing the launch, MoPSW Secretary T.K. Ramachandran highlighted the importance of leveraging technology to accelerate maritime growth and stressed on greater collaboration between academia and industry. He noted that MAR-a-THON would serve as a platform to address industry challenges and deliver scalable solutions aligned with the vision of Maritime AmritKaal 2047.
The programme unveiled the hackathon video, website, brochure, and Innovation Challenges. Applications will remain open until September 29, with the hackathon scheduled for October 16–18 at IIT Madras, followed by awards during India Maritime Week 2025.
Selected start-ups will be offered milestone-based funding, ranging from ₹10 lakh for proof of concept to ₹1 crore for commercial scale-up, ensuring strong support for innovation in India’s Blue Economy.
