L&T wins key infra, defence & hydrocarbon orders and is close to sealing a $400 mn shipbuilding deal with Maersk, boosting India’s shipyard strength.

In a major boost to India’s infrastructure and defence manufacturing landscape, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured multiple high-value contracts across its business verticals and is reportedly on the verge of signing a landmark shipbuilding and repair agreement with global shipping giant Maersk, estimated at up to $400 million.
The engineering conglomerate confirmed that all recent order wins fall within its ₹1,000–2,500 crore project value range, reinforcing its strong order book momentum.
Infra & Defence Orders Power Growth
L&T GeoStructure has clinched key construction projects across India, including:
• South Breakwater Extension at Paradip Port, Odisha
• Slipway Augmentation for Hindustan Shipyard, Visakhapatnam
• Substructure Works for a leading real-estate developer in Chennai
In defence, L&T’s Precision Engineering Systems division secured a prestigious order for partial construction of two Fleet Support Ships for the Indian Navy (via Hindustan Shipyard Limited). These state-of-the-art vessels will:
✅ Measure over 220 metres in length
✅ Have a 45,000-ton displacement capacity
✅ Be built at L&T’s Kattupalli Shipyard near Chennai
Oil & Gas Wins in Middle East
Adding to the momentum, L&T’s Hydrocarbon vertical won onshore and offshore EPC orders from a Middle East client for:
• Engineering, procurement & construction of an Enclosed Ground-Flare system
• Upgradation of shutdown systems across offshore platforms
These orders strengthen L&T’s footprint in the GCC energy market.
$400 Million Maersk Deal on the Horizon
In a development that could reposition India on the global shipbuilding map, L&T is close to finalising a long-term agreement with Maersk. The proposed deal would involve shipbuilding and repair projects at L&T’s Tamil Nadu facility and carry a value of up to $400 million over several years.
| Key Details – Maersk Deal | Information |
|---|---|
| Parties | L&T & Maersk |

Industry experts believe such a partnership could attract more global maritime players to Indian shipyards and accelerate India’s ambitions of becoming a shipbuilding hub.
GST Setback – ₹43.15 Cr Penalty
Meanwhile, in a regulatory development, L&T received a GST order from Jaipur authorities, disallowing input tax credit and imposing a penalty of ₹43.15 crore. The company has stated that it will appeal the order.
With strong order inflows, a potential blockbuster partnership with Maersk, and sustained sectoral growth, L&T remains in a commanding position across infrastructure, defence, hydrocarbons, and marine engineering. Stakeholders now await the official confirmation of the Maersk deal, which could be a game-changer for India’s global shipbuilding ambitions.
