The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has approved a Rs 132.51 crore road over bridge project at Deendayal Port Authority, Kandla, to be constructed at level crossing LC-235 by Western Railway on a deposit basis.

The approval comes under the Sagarmala programme, India’s flagship port-led development initiative. The road over bridge will eliminate a grade crossing that has long served as a significant bottleneck for cargo trucks and rail movements in and around the port.
The intervention is particularly timely given that Kandla recorded an impressive 160.11 million metric tonnes in FY26, handling increasing volumes of renewable energy project cargo, fertilisers, and liquid bulk that demand efficient land-side evacuation infrastructure.
The Kandla approval is one of three significant infrastructure developments this week reflecting India’s commitment to advancing its long-term logistics ambitions in parallel with short-term crisis management arising from the ongoing Hormuz disruption. Other developments include a Rs 200 crore logistics park MoU signed in Karnataka and Mumbai unveiling plans for an electric ferry service connecting the city to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport.
Together, these initiatives underline the resilience of India’s infrastructure pipeline and reinforce the government’s strategy of building port-led logistics capacity to support the country’s growing trade and energy transition requirements.
