The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) and Numaligarh Refinery (NRL) have signed an MoU to facilitate the export of petroleum products via National Waterways-2 (Brahmaputra) and Indo Bangladesh Protocol Route (IBPR). The partnership supports the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, boosting India’s Act East Policy and aligning with the Hydrocarbon Vision 2030 for Northeast.
NRL aims to transport around 10,000 MT of petroleum products per month from the IWAI Jogighopa Multi Modal terminal to Bangladesh and other southeast Asian countries. The collaboration involves establishing a POL Oil Terminal at Jogighopa Logistics Park with rail connectivity, development of six flat bottom barges, and enhancing land infrastructure. The initiative aims to unlock new EXIM trade possibilities for the Northeast region and leverage waterways for cargo movement.
