Diplomatic engagement between Jaishankar and his Iranian counterpart secures a critical lifeline for India’s energy supply chain.

Iran has allowed Indian-flagged vessels to pass safely through the Strait of Hormuz, even as maritime traffic through the strategic waterway has slowed sharply following US-Israel strikes on Iran, according to The Economic Times. Vessels linked to the United States, Europe, and Israel continue to face restrictions.
The development follows a conversation between External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi late Tuesday, during which the safe navigation of tankers through the strait was a prominent agenda item.
The Strait of Hormuz, which links the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman, has emerged as the most critical chokepoint in the current crisis. India, which sources over 90% of its LPG imports and a significant share of its crude through the strait, has been on emergency footing since commercial shipping through the waterway was effectively halted.
