Deendayal Port Authority becomes India’s first port to run a megawatt-scale Make-in-India green hydrogen plant.

The Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, has commissioned India’s first Make-in-India 1 MW Green Hydrogen Plant. The facility was inaugurated by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, marking a significant milestone in India’s maritime decarbonisation journey.
Commissioned within just four months, the 1 MW plant is part of a larger 10 MW green hydrogen project, whose foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May 2025. The facility is expected to generate 140 metric tonnes of green hydrogen annually, supporting India’s Net Zero ambitions.
DPA becomes the first Indian port to operate such a megawatt-scale facility, setting new standards under the Maritime India Vision 2030. The Minister applauded the collaboration between DPA and L&T for delivering the project with speed and precision.
The move follows DPA’s earlier innovation, introducing India’s first Make-in-India all-electric Green Tug. With these achievements, DPA is leading India’s ports towards a sustainable, self-reliant future, aligning with the nation’s green goals and technological leadership.
