Indian companies secure global shipbuilding orders and green tech pacts in Oslo.

India’s maritime sector achieved a significant milestone at Nor-Shipping 2025 in Oslo, as leading Indian companies signed key agreements with global players to advance shipbuilding, sustainability, and innovation. Union Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, who attended the signing ceremonies, hailed these partnerships as a major boost to the ‘Make in India’ initiative and the nation’s blue economy strategy.
Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) inked a Memorandum of Intent with Germany’s Carsten Rehder for constructing four hybrid-powered, 7,500 DWT multipurpose vessels, adding to an existing order of eight. GRSE also signed MoUs with UAE’s Aries Marine for offshore platform construction and with a global engine manufacturer.
India’s Larsen & Toubro (L&T) signed a strategic MoU with Norway’s DNV to collaborate across shipbuilding, maritime infrastructure, cybersecurity, sustainability, and energy solutions.
Sonowal emphasised India’s deepening ties with Norway through shared goals in green shipping, digitalisation, and port-led growth. A strong Indian delegation of MSMEs and maritime firms also explored future-ready collaborations under Sagarmala and the Blue Economy Task Force.
