Historic MoU exchange sets stage for 1.5 lakh jobs, ports, shipyards, and green maritime initiatives.

India took a historic stride in maritime development as twenty-seven MoUs worth over ₹66,000 crore were signed at the “Samudra Se Samriddhi – Transforming India’s Maritime Sector” event. Union Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal said the agreements will create 1.5 lakh jobs, expand ports, strengthen shipbuilding, and boost India’s global maritime share.
Key deals include the ₹21,500 crore Bahuda Port project in Odisha, enhancing capacity to 150 MTPA, and a ₹908 crore Water Metro initiative in Patna, integrating energy-efficient ferries with multimodal transport. Cochin Shipyard and Mazagon Dock inked agreements with international partners, supporting shipyards, fabrication units, and R&D centres, collectively driving domestic capacity expansion.
Other MoUs focus on sustainable financing, port-led industrialisation, green shipbuilding clusters, and heritage-linked projects like the 77-metre lighthouse museum in Lothal. The initiatives span multiple states, including Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal, positioning India as a self-reliant maritime powerhouse, fostering industrial growth, employment, and global competitiveness.
