The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) has announced that the India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025 will be held in Mumbai from October 27 to 31 at the NESCO Exhibition Centre, with global participation expected.
As a curtain-raiser, the Ministry hosted the Ambassadors’ Roundtable Meet at Hotel Taj Mansingh, New Delhi, drawing Ambassadors and High Commissioners from over 25 countries, alongside senior officials, industry leaders, and representatives from global institutions.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who chaired the session, stressed India’s maritime sector as a key driver of global trade, sustainability, and innovation. He said, “The power of water is empowering human civilization. We must explore it responsibly, creating a sustainable future for all.”
Minister of State Shantanu Thakur highlighted government initiatives in modernizing port infrastructure, boosting inland waterways, and promoting green and digital shipping. “Ports are not just gateways of prosperity, but also gateways of India’s future,” he said, quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for nation-building through maritime strength.
The gathering also featured Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and senior PMO official Shaktikanta Das, who underscored the synergy between India’s maritime vision and evolving global partnerships.
A presentation by R. Laxmanan, Joint Secretary, MoPSW, outlined IMW 2025’s agenda, spotlighting opportunities in shipbuilding, port-led development, blue economy initiatives, digital logistics, and sustainable shipping practices.
Minister Sonowal concluded that India Maritime Week 2025 will be a platform to position India as a global maritime hub, driving international cooperation and investment.
The outcomes of the Roundtable will be integrated into the event’s agenda to ensure IMW 2025 reflects both domestic priorities and global stakeholder expectations.
