India pushes metro expansion with global support, aligning projects with national policies for integrated urban growth.

The 4th edition of the ET Infra Rail Show spotlighted India’s ambitious metro expansion plans, underlining their strategic alignment with national initiatives like the PM Gati Shakti Policy, Vikshit Bharat 2047, and the National Logistics Policy. The event brought together key figures from government, private sector, and global partners.
Highlighting India’s rapid urban transit growth, Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Katikithala Srinivas shared that metros are operational or under construction in 29 cities, making India’s metro network the third largest globally.
Takuro Takeuchi, Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) India, reaffirmed Japan’s commitment, proposing deeper collaboration through transit-oriented development to enhance city value and improve public benefit.
Railway Board’s Additional Member (Budget) Manjusha Jain emphasised that increased budgetary support is empowering the rail sector to meet national development goals. Panels explored digital integration, revenue strategies, and value capture financing for metro and freight projects.
The event was supported by JICA, IRFC, DFCCIL, SAIL, RITES, and key industry partners.
