India deploys domestically developed drone defense systems along the northern border, enhancing security measures.
India has fortified its northern borders with the deployment of seven indigenous integrated drone detection and interdiction systems (IDD&IS). Developed jointly by DRDO and Bharat Electronics, these systems offer advanced capabilities to neutralise hostile drones.
With a detection range spanning 5 to 8 kilometers, the IDD&IS combines “soft kill” measures such as jamming with “hard kill” options like lasers. Officials anticipate further enhancements with upcoming versions promising extended interception ranges.
The move comes amid heightened concerns over drone threats, prompting India to expand its counter-drone arsenal. The armed forces are actively pursuing various solutions, including jamming and laser-based Directed Energy Weapons (DEWs), to address evolving security challenges. The ongoing military standoff with China in eastern Ladakh underscores the urgency of bolstering India’s defense capabilities along its borders.
