Hindalco marks a major EV milestone with Mahindra, expands production and promotes diversity at the Chakan plant.

Hindalco Industries announced the delivery of 10,000 aluminium battery enclosures to Mahindra for its new electric SUVs, BE 6 and XUV 9e. The deliveries come from Hindalco’s newly inaugurated EV component manufacturing facility in Chakan, Maharashtra, marking a significant step in the clean mobility transition.
With an investment of ₹500 crores, the 5-acre facility has an annual production capacity of 80,000 units, set to double to 160,000 units. Over 3,000 Mahindra EVs featuring these enclosures are already on Indian roads. The battery enclosures offer up to 40% weight reduction compared to steel, resulting in better range, crash safety, and battery cooling efficiency.
Hindalco emphasised the plant’s gender diversity, employing nearly all women in technical roles. The company aims to extend these solutions to other Indian and global OEMs, aligning with the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Hindalco’s focus on lightweight, sustainable materials positions it at the forefront of India’s evolving EV landscape.
