GMR Airports has assumed full cargo control at IGIA after Celebi’s security clearance was revoked by BCAS.

In a major development at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), GMR Airports (GAL), a GMR Group subsidiary, has taken full charge of cargo operations. The decision follows the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security’s (BCAS) revocation of security clearance for Celebi Airport Services India on May 15, citing national security concerns.
Celebi, a Turkish firm, had been a significant cargo and ground services operator in India for over 15 years, with a strong presence at nine major airports and a workforce exceeding 10,000. At IGIA alone, it handled around 540,000 tonnes of cargo annually. With BCAS’s order in place, Delhi International Airport (DIAL) terminated its partnership with Celebi, transferring all cargo responsibilities to GAL.
DIAL confirmed the transition via social media, assuring stakeholders of business continuity. GMR, already operating airports in Delhi, Hyderabad, and Goa, now consolidates its position as a leading player in India’s aviation sector.
Celebi has challenged the BCAS decision in the Delhi High Court, citing procedural concerns and financial losses.
