Emirates SkyCargo marks a decade of dual airport operations enabled by a robust trucking fleet.
Emirates SkyCargo is celebrating ten years of seamless dual airport operations between Dubai World Central (DWC) and Dubai International Airport (DXB), facilitated by its strong trucking fleet and a bonded corridor. The 77-kilometre distance between the airports is bridged by a five-hour air-to-air transfer service, made possible by a fleet of over 60 trucks operating around the clock.
Since May 2014, these trucks have transferred over 2.16 million tonnes of cargo across 640,000 trips, supporting trade to more than 150 destinations within Emirates SkyCargo’s global network. “A reliable and effective trucking service has been essential to our dual airport hub’s success, enabling seamless movement of customer shipments,” said Robert Fordree, Senior Vice President of Cargo Operations Worldwide at Emirates SkyCargo. The company boasts one of the most competitive air-to-air transfer times and continues to develop its multi-modal offerings to integrate Dubai’s world-class infrastructure.
The diverse truck fleet, maintained and operated by Allied Transport Company, includes flat-beds, temperature-controlled units, dry box roller beds, and reefers, providing tailored solutions for goods in transit. Over the past decade, the fleet has traveled more than 62 million miles, equivalent to 81 trips to the moon and back.
In addition to shuttling cargo between the two airports, Emirates SkyCargo introduced a road feeder service in 2020 to enhance land connectivity for regional airports. This service has handled significant transit traffic from GCC markets, including Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, transporting oversized and heavy cargo such as machinery, engines, automotive parts, and oil field equipment.
