The Directorate General of Shipping marked its Platinum Jubilee with a grand celebration in Mumbai.

The Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, commemorated its Platinum Jubilee at the Bharat Ratnam-Mega Common Facilitation Centre, SEEPZ SEZ, Mumbai. The milestone event gathered ministers, officials, maritime leaders, academicians, and international representatives to celebrate 75 years of India’s maritime growth.
The day-long program began with the inauguration of the “75 Years of Sea and Service” Maritime Exhibition, highlighting India’s shipping heritage and evolution. Rare archives, visuals, and innovations were showcased to retired officers, DGS staff, and their families.
Hon’ble Minister of State Shri Shantanu Thakur and Director General Shri Shyam Jaganathan, among other dignitaries, graced the ceremony. The event featured the release of a coffee table book, a commemorative postal cover, and the screening of a documentary on DGS’s journey since 1949.
The DG Shipping 75th Anniversary Awards honored excellence in categories including women in maritime, green shipping, digital transformation, and lifetime achievement. Cultural performances and a gala dinner concluded the celebrations, reflecting on India’s maritime legacy and future vision.
