The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the development of a container terminal at Tuna-Tekra, Deendayal Port on a Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) basis through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
The Concessionaire will bear the estimated cost of Rs 4,243.64 crore, while the Concessioning Authority will bear the estimated cost of Rs 296.20 crore for the development of common user facilities.
The project, once completed, will cater to future growth in container cargo traffic. Beginning in 2025, Tuna-Tekra will be able to fill a net gap of 1.88 million TEUs. The construction of a cutting-edge container terminal at Tuna-Tekra will provide a strategic advantage because it will be the only closed container terminal serving the vast hinterland of northern India (Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan). The project will boost the economy and create jobs, in addition to increasing Kandla’s business potential.
