The call of the vessel SCI Mumbai at Mormugao on November 20 formally signals the restart of container movements.

Following a seven-year gap, container shipping is poised to recommence at Goa’s Mormugao Port Authority (MPA). This development is expected to significantly boost the state’s logistics and maritime infrastructure. The port will reopen in late November 2025 after handling containers for the last time in 2018.
The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) has been chosen to run the new feeder service, according to port officials. On November 20, the ship SCI Mumbai is expected to dock in Mormugao, marking the official resumption of container traffic via the port.
Goa’s commercial community, which has long called for the restoration of container services to lower logistical costs and reliance on road transport to ports in neighbouring states, has applauded the move. Exporters think the service will speed up turnaround times and simplify supply networks.
According to Delta Ports’ manager, the container terminal restart will significantly boost Goa’s import/export potential and strengthen maritime connectivity.
According to industry commentators, the action will help Mormugao Port regain its significance as a regional logistics hub, supporting Goa’s growing industrial base and increasing its involvement in international and coastal trade.
