The National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) has confirmed that four smart industrial cities are emerging across 2,500-3,000 acres of industrial land under the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor.
Managed by NICDC, 65 percent of this land is already occupied, with 274 companies either established or in the setup phase. The key cities are Dholera (Gujarat), Greater Noida (UP), Vikram Udyogpuri (MP), and Shendra-Bidkin (Maharashtra).
These smart industrial cities offer plug-and-play infrastructure, 24/7 power supply, effluent treatment plants, multi-modal connectivity, and streamlined clearances, including environmental approvals.
India aims to establish 32 smart industrial cities across 11 industrial and economic corridors. Presently, there are four fully developed smart cities, with an additional four in progress. While three Chinese companies invested in these cities before 2020, regulatory changes now require prior government approval for FDI from countries sharing a land border with India. These corridors offer cost advantages due to the non-cross-subsidisation of agriculture.
