Cochin Shipyard secures Rs 1,100 crore contract to build eight eco-friendly cargo vessels for Wilson ASA, with delivery by September 2028.
Cochin Shipyard (CSL) secures an international order to construct eight dry cargo vessels for Wilson ASA, valued at Rs 1,100 crore, to be completed by September 2028. The vessels, designed by Conoship International, Netherlands, will transport general cargo in European coastal waters.
Cochin Shipyard (CSL) has clinched a significant international contract to design and build eight dry cargo vessels for Wilson ASA, a leading short sea fleet operator based in Bergen, Norway. The vessels, with a total dead weight (TDW) of 6,300 tonnes each, will be constructed at Udupi Cochin Shipyard Ltd (UCSL), a subsidiary of CSL. Designed by Conoship International from the Netherlands, these environment-friendly diesel-electric vessels will serve to transport general cargo across Europe’s coastal waters.
The project, valued at approximately Rs 1,100 crore, is slated for completion by September 2028. Wilson ASA, renowned for transporting about 15 million tonnes of dry cargo annually in Europe, operates a fleet of around 130 vessels ranging from 1,500 to 8,500 TDW.
Additionally, Wilson ASA has entered into an agreement with UCSL to build another batch of four vessels, with a formal contract expected to be signed in September 2024. This follows a previous contract awarded in June 2023 for the construction of six 3,800 TDW dry cargo vessels, which are currently in advanced stages at UCSL.
Since its acquisition by Cochin Shipyard, UCSL has successfully delivered two 62-tonne Bollard Pull Tugs to Ocean Sparkle Limited and one 70-tonne Bollard Pull Tug to Polestar Maritime, highlighting its expanding capabilities in shipbuilding and delivery.
