CBIC extends key export perks to postal parcels from 15 January, boosting global trade for small Indian firms.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs has announced that vital export incentive schemes, including duty drawback, RoDTEP, and RoSCTL, are now applicable to shipments sent via the postal network. This policy shift, which came into force on 15 January 2026, is intended to bolster the international competitiveness of small-scale exporters, particularly those situated in remote or rural regions.
By extending these financial benefits to electronic postal declarations, the authorities aim to provide a more balanced trade environment for those using mail services rather than traditional cargo routes. Formal documentation, including Notification 07/2026 and Circular 01/2026, was officially released on 15 January 2026 to outline the new operational requirements.
This initiative builds upon previous digital reforms, such as the automated IGST refunds introduced in late 2024. Additionally, it makes use of the country’s network of over 1,000 speciality export centres and 28 Foreign Post Offices. The overarching goal is to simplify cross-border e-commerce and reduce the financial burden on smaller businesses looking to reach global markets.
