In response to Dhanbad MP P N Singh’s inquiry, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia revealed that the Bokaro airport, slated for operations under the Udan scheme, is anticipated to commence flights for ATR-72 type aircraft by early 2024.
The airport, selected for commercial flights connecting Kolkata and Patna, has completed construction work related to ATR-72 operations. The licensing process is underway and expected to conclude by February 2024.
Once approved, the Selected Airline Operator (SAO) can initiate flights, fulfilling the Udan scheme’s objective of providing connectivity to remote areas. Singh, emphasising the slow progress, urges swift completion to address the region’s demand for air connectivity.
