Logistics is indeed all about expecting the unexpected
Kavitha Suresh, Assistant General Manager, Crown Workspace and Warehousing, embodies the essence of impactful leadership in the dynamic logistics sector. She champions a philosophy grounded in three core principles: determination, dedication, and discipline. “Any business deliverables are possible only with three D’s—Determination, Dedication, and Discipline,” she asserts, emphasising the critical role of self-belief and unwavering commitment to excellence. For Suresh, true leadership transcends mere task execution; it’s about consistently striving for impactful results through disciplined effort.
Success beyond numbers
Suresh’s perception of success extends far beyond conventional metrics. She believes that a professional’s true legacy lies in the positive influence they exert on their community. “Success isn’t just about the numbers you generate; it’s about the difference you make in the communities you serve,” she explains. This perspective underscores her belief that success is measured by the tangible improvements one brings about, whether through nurturing team growth or pioneering sustainable solutions. Achieving genuine fulfillment, for Suresh, involves contributing meaningfully and finding purpose in one’s professional journey.
From chance to choice
Her entry into logistics was initially a matter of circumstance, not design. “I come from a middle-class family, and I was part of the first generation to earn a degree,” she recounts. What began as a job evolved into a deliberate career choice as she recognised the industry’s potential and the unique opportunity to excel in a predominantly male field. “Over time, I realised that this sector had very few women, and it required determination and dedication to succeed,” she notes. By prioritising process and allowing results to naturally follow, she transformed her initial happenstance into a strategic career path, significantly shaping her personal and professional growth.
Navigating unprecedented challenges
The unpredictable nature of logistics was starkly highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Logistics is indeed all about expecting the unexpected,” Suresh observes. Faced with the unprecedented challenge of maintaining essential supply chains, she prioritised the well-being of her team. “We provided psychological support to our ground team, equipped them with all necessary PPE, and ensured they received timely COVID-19 vaccinations,” she explains. Through collaborative efforts and proactive measures, they successfully navigated the crisis, ensuring uninterrupted operations.
Building lasting relationships
Suresh’s dedication to fostering lasting organisational change is exemplified by her introduction of “Specialised Services.” Recognising the unique needs of each client, she advocated for a tailored approach. “Recognising that each customer is unique with different needs and expectations, we realised that a one-size-fits-all approach wouldn’t work,” she states. By deeply understanding client requirements and developing customised solutions, they transitioned from mere service providers to trusted advisors. This strategic shift fostered enduring client relationships and significantly enhanced the organisation’s reputation, leaving a lasting positive impact.
