BEML partners with DPA, DMRC & UTIPL to pilot India’s first automated cargo evacuation system, boosting port efficiency and speed.

In a move set to reshape the future of port logistics in India, BEML has signed a quadripartite MoU with Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Umeandus Technologies India (UTIPL) to develop a pilot Real-Time Automatic Cargo Evacuation System, called e-FTS (Enhanced Freight Transport System).
The initiative aims to bring metro-like automation to the movement of cargo at ports, significantly reducing manual handling, improving cargo flow, and cutting turnaround time for evacuation—one of the biggest bottlenecks in EXIM trade.
A Four-Partner Alliance with Distinct Strengths
The partnership brings together expertise from four different sectors to create a transformative logistics solution:
| Partner | Strength Brought Into the Project |
|---|---|
| BEML Limited | Manufacturing & heavy engineering capabilities |
| Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) | Port operations & cargo management expertise |
| Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) | Efficient mass-transport system execution & project leadership |
| UTIPL | Cutting-edge automation & technology solutions |
Under the MoU:
- DMRC will lead project execution, applying its proven mass-transit engineering model to cargo movement.
- BEML & UTIPL will jointly support system development and integration.
- The pilot will run at Deendayal Port Authority, India’s busiest public port by cargo volume.
What Is e-FTS Expected to Change?
While detailed specs are awaited, the system is expected to:
Automate freight transfer from port to storage/dispatch points
Reduce human intervention & errors
Enhance cargo throughput and operational safety
Improve turnaround time for vessels and trucks
If successful, the e-FTS could become a game-changer for Indian ports, supporting the country’s push toward smart, tech-driven logistics infrastructure and improving global trade competitiveness.
Market Perspective
The development falls within BEML’s regular business strategy of expanding into infrastructure-driven innovation. With ports modernising rapidly under the PM Gati Shakti and National Logistics Policy push, this collaboration could open new growth avenues for BEML in port automation & logistics technology.
BEML’s Stock Snapshot (as of latest update):
- 1 Day: –2.16% | 5 Days: –1.63% | 1 Month: +6.67%
- 6 Months: +39.14% | 1 Year: +14.52% | 5 Years: +776.97%
Industry watchers and investors will closely track this pilot, as its success could trigger replication across Indian ports and logistics hubs, potentially marking the beginning of a new era of automated cargo movement in India.
