Etihad Cargo transported over 50,000 tonnes of temperature-controlled products at the carrier’s Abu Dhabi hub prior to the opening of the new pharmaceutical store.
The airport’s cold-chain storage capacity will be doubled thanks to the expanded, dedicated pharmaceutical hub.
“The expanded infrastructure will provide best-in-class pharmaceutical shipment solutions to Etihad Cargo’s customers and is the latest step in supporting Abu Dhabi’s vision to cement its position as a global pharmaceuticals and life sciences hub,” said Martin Drew, Etihad Aviation Group’s senior vice president of global sales and cargo.
“This joint venture, which is based at Etihad Cargo’s hub at Abu Dhabi International Airport, provides the ideal location to connect the Middle East to not only Asia and Europe but also the United States and Africa,” he said.
Bulk loading docks with levellers, high-speed roll-up shutters, insulation, and a real-time temperature monitoring system are among the features of the additional 3,000 square-metre site. In addition, the new facility will include new x-ray screening for customs inspections in a fully temperature-controlled environment, as well as new dedicated thermal covers.
