AP approved a ₹ 1,615-crore rail cargo terminal near Ramayapatnam Port to boost port-led development and freight logistics.

The Andhra Pradesh government has given final clearance for a major logistics infrastructure project, approving a ₹1,615 crore multi-cargo modular rail terminal in Nellore district. The project is designed to substantially strengthen freight connectivity along the critical Ramayapatnam Port corridor, according to reports from December 15, 2025.
The terminal, to be developed by Ramayapatnam Cargo Rail Terminal (RCRT), is situated on a 429-acre site near Tettu Railway Station. This strategic placement positions it as a vital inland logistics hub, facilitating the movement of cargo to and from the deep-water port currently under construction.
Investment and Development
- Land Allocation: The State Investment Promotion Board reviewed the proposal on December 4, sanctioning the initial allotment of 153.77 acres in Chevuru village to RCRT.
- Process: Under the approved framework, the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board will acquire the necessary land and transfer it to the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC). APIIC will subsequently allot the parcel to RCRT on a cost-recovery basis, with the transfer benefiting from an exemption from stamp duty and registration charges.
- Job Creation: The project is projected to generate approximately 1,300 new jobs in the region.
Boosting Logistics Efficiency
Designed to handle a diverse range of bulk and containerised goods, the rail terminal is key to supporting industries clustered around the Ramayapatnam port. Its implementation is expected to:
- Improve cargo evacuation efficiency.
- Reduce overall transit times for goods.
- Lower logistics costs for businesses operating in the area.
Officials noted that the project underscores Andhra Pradesh’s strategy to develop a fully integrated manufacturing and logistics ecosystem on the east coast, anchored by new ports, upgraded rail infrastructure, and coordinated industrial planning.
