ADB sanctions $350 million to modernise logistics, reduce costs, and drive growth in India’s manufacturing and exports.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $350 million policy-based loan to support India’s logistics sector modernisation and efficiency enhancement. This funding, as part of the second subprogram, will assist in developing a robust policy, planning, and institutional framework at state and city levels.
ADB emphasised that the logistics reforms aim to transform India’s supply chain through policy improvements, infrastructural upgrades, and digital integration. Key initiatives, including the Prime Minister Gati Shakti-National Master Plan and the National Logistics Policy, target streamlined processes and infrastructure modernisation.
Senior Public Management Economist Sameer Khatiwada stated that better logistics efficiency will enhance manufacturing competitiveness, reduce costs, and strengthen export resilience.
India’s goods exports rose from $48.5 billion in 2000 to $467.5 billion in 2022. The government’s vision includes reaching $2 trillion in goods and services exports by 2030, supported by ADB-backed initiatives to reduce costs and greenhouse gas emissions while boosting economic growth.
