In a significant development, Kerala’s Beypore, Vizhinjam, Kollam, and Azhikal ports have received International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) approval. Ahmed Devarkovil, the Minister of Archeology Department, Port, and Museum, made this announcement at the Beypore port premises. The state government’s primary goal is to bolster the development of small ports in Kerala and modernise them to accommodate foreign ships. With ISPS certification, these ports will join the list of international ports, enhancing their cargo export potential.
Works Minister P A Mohamed Riyas emphasised that the ISPS approval will make these ports more active, transforming them into cargo and cruise tourism hubs. The upgrades to international standards are expected to catalyse development across the state, benefiting industrial and commercial sectors. Security measures have been bolstered to monitor vessel and personnel movement. Beypore Port is also undergoing extensive developments, including the introduction of advanced scanning and communication systems, further positioning it for international cargo operations.
