The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted in-principle approval for Air India and IndiGo to import a total of 970 planes in a significant move to fuel their expansion strategies. As per the PTI report, Air India plans to acquire 470 aircraft from both Airbus and Boeing, including 210 from the A320 neo family, 140 from the B737 family, and 40 from the A350 family. Additionally, the carrier will procure 50 B737-8s, 20 B787-9s, and 10 B777-9s. IndiGo, on the other hand, aims to acquire 500 aircraft from the A320 neo family.
The induction of these aircraft is expected to take place between 2023 and 2035. DGCA ensures availability of parking slots at the time of granting the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for actual aircraft import. The approvals mark significant progress in the expansion and growth of Air India and IndiGo’s fleets in the aviation market.
