The commencement of the Water Metro service to Fort Kochi is facing a setback as the construction of the marine platform at the terminal can only begin after the monsoon season, according to authorities from Kochi Water Metro (KWML). The terminal works are nearing completion, but the absence of a marine platform for receiving boats in the area hinders the extension of services.
Given the confluence of the Arabian Sea and backwaters in the region, strong safety measures are necessary. KWML is awaiting the delivery of additional boats from Cochin Shipyard (CSL) to open the Water Metro terminals at Eloor, Chittoor, Cheranellore, and Mulavukad. With the current average daily ridership of approximately 3,500, there is a demand for more boats to increase service frequency. CSL plans to deliver two more boats in June, allowing for potential service expansion.
