Renault Nissan, the alliance between French Renault and Japanese Nissan Automotive, has signed an agreement with Kamarajar Port (KPL) to facilitate the export of cars manufactured in Chennai to the company’s global destinations.
The agreement takes the existing partnership between Renault Nissan and KPL to the next level. It will add new export destinations to the vehicles manufactured in Chennai’s Oragadam plant, thus pushing the current annual figure of 10 lakh vehicle exports in 2022.
Renault Nissan has big plans for the Indian market, including more R&D activities, more production of electric vehicles, and gradually moving to a carbon-neutral manufacturing process. The Oragadam plant serves both domestic and international markets. It has built over 24 lakh cars for Renault and Nissan, exported to 108 countries. The two companies have invested $1.8 billion in the Indian economy, generating employment for over 70,000 workers.
