Technology-driven platform strengthens visibility and efficiency across India’s container logistics network.
The Logistics Data Bank (LDB) has crossed the milestone of tracking 10 crore export-import (EXIM) containers since its launch in 2016, marking a significant achievement in India’s efforts to improve logistics visibility through digital technologies. The platform enables stakeholders to monitor container movement across the logistics chain using technology-based tracking systems, supporting greater transparency and operational efficiency.
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said the milestone reflects India’s progress towards building a more efficient logistics ecosystem through technology. He noted that improved logistics would play a key role in enhancing the competitiveness of Indian industry, strengthening manufacturing and supporting the vision of Viksit Bharat.
LDB provides end-to-end visibility of containerised EXIM cargo using RFID, Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data and Cloud technologies, enabling near real-time tracking across ports, railways, highways, inland logistics facilities and other logistics nodes. The platform also offers analytics on dwell time, transit time and terminal performance, helping stakeholders identify bottlenecks and improve supply chain efficiency.
The launch of LDB 2.0 in September 2025 further expanded the platform’s capabilities by introducing high-seas container tracking and multimodal shipment visibility, strengthening India’s digital trade infrastructure and logistics ecosystem.
Developed by NICDC Logistics Data Services Limited (NLDSL), LDB forms part of the Government’s broader digital logistics initiatives alongside the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP). NLDSL, established on December 30, 2015, is a joint venture between the Government of India, represented by the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT), and Japan’s NEC Corporation.
