Government highlights growth of domestic toy industry in Parliament
The Government has said that India’s toy industry has recorded significant growth following a series of policy measures aimed at improving product quality, promoting domestic manufacturing and boosting exports. Replying in Parliament, the Government said toy imports have declined by 37.5 per cent, while toy exports have increased by 89.1 per cent, making India a net exporter of toys to markets including the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany. It also noted that the 17th Toy Biz International B2B Exhibition, organised by the Toy Association of India from July 4 to 7, 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, featured 400 Indian toy brands, 100 international buyers from 40 countries and around 30,000 business visitors.
The Government informed Parliament that although there is no dedicated national toy policy, several initiatives have been introduced to strengthen the sector. These include the National Action Plan for Toys, higher Basic Customs Duty on toys, the Quality Control Order for toys, support for toy clusters, promotion of toy-based learning under the National Education Policy 2020, and export incentives under the RoDTEP scheme. According to the Government, a BIS survey conducted in 2025 found that 95 per cent of toy samples met prescribed quality standards, compared with 33 per cent in 2019. It also stated that more than 1,800 domestic manufacturers and over 50 foreign manufacturers have been granted BIS licences for toy production.
