The 10th India-Kenya Joint Trade Committee meeting concludes in Nairobi with three MoUs signed and fresh commitments across trade, energy and digital cooperation.

The 10th Session of the India-Kenya Joint Trade Committee (JTC) was held on April 27 and 28, 2026, in Nairobi, Kenya, co-chaired by India’s Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal and Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Trade Regina Akotah Ombam. Bilateral trade between the two countries rose to USD 4.31 billion in 2025-26, up 24.91% from USD 3.45 billion in 2024–25, with India emerging as one of Kenya’s key trading partners.
Three MoUs were signed on the sidelines of the meeting and both sides also discussed the potential adoption of a Local Currency Settlement mechanism, noting that Kenyan banks have already opened Special Rupee Vostro Accounts with Indian banks.
Sectoral discussions covered engineering goods, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, renewable energy and digital infrastructure. India offered support for Kenya’s Standard Gauge Railway through feasibility studies, project management and rolling stock supply, and expressed readiness to assist with solar and wind energy projects. Kenya conveyed its decision to sign the International Solar Alliance Framework Agreement at the earliest opportunity.
Collaboration on UPI-like payment systems and digital platforms for financial inclusion was also discussed. On capacity building, India offered training under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme across sectors including mining, earth sciences, healthcare and education. An India–Kenya Joint Business Forum was held on the sidelines of the JTC, with participation from CII and the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI).
