Amazon’s new ‘Blue Jay’ robot can pick, sort, and consolidate packages simultaneously, boosting speed and efficiency.

Amazon has unveiled its latest robotic system, ‘Blue Jay,’ capable of picking, sorting, and consolidating packages simultaneously, a first for the company’s warehouse operations.
The AI-powered robotic arms, fitted with suction-cup grippers, move along an overhead conveyor-like track, handling parcels of varying shapes and sizes with precision. The system merges three separate robotic functions into a single, streamlined unit, drastically improving efficiency.
Currently being tested at a South Carolina fulfilment centre, Blue Jay can handle approximately 75% of all stored items, performing picking, packing, stowing, and consolidation within a compact workspace.
Designed to reduce physical strain on employees while enhancing speed and space utilisation, Blue Jay is part of Amazon’s strategy to create safer, more efficient workplaces.
Blue Jay joins Amazon’s expanding fleet of smart robots, including “Vulcan,” which features touch-sensitive capabilities, following the landmark $775 million Kiva Systems acquisition in 2012, which jumpstarted Amazon’s warehouse robotics revolution.
This development signals Amazon’s next step in integrating AI-driven automation with human collaboration to redefine warehouse logistics globally.
