Ongoing protests in Nepal disrupt cargo movement, causing shortages and economic strain across borders.

Political unrest in Nepal has brought the India-Nepal logistics corridor to a standstill as of September 22, 2025. Major border points, including Raxaul-Birgunj and Sunauli-Bhairahawa, remain closed due to violent protests and nationwide strikes, halting the movement of goods and passengers. Around 600 cargo trucks are stranded at Raxaul, while over 310 tankers carrying fuel and LPG have been recalled by Indian authorities, intensifying energy shortages in Nepal.
The disruption is causing severe shortages of essentials such as food, medicines, and fuel, leading to rising prices and scarcity. Indian exporters face financial losses due to delayed shipments and unsold goods at the border.
While the Motihari-Amlekhgunj oil pipeline continues operations, concerns about its long-term stability remain. Authorities are implementing heightened security measures, and efforts are ongoing to evacuate stranded travelers and pilgrims safely. Businesses and supply chain stakeholders are closely monitoring the situation for further developments.
