India and Mauritius ink eight pacts, boosting trade, maritime security, and launching the new “MAHASAGAR” vision.

India and Mauritius have strengthened their relationship by establishing an “Enhanced Strategic Partnership” and signing eight agreements to bolster cooperation in trade, maritime security, and other key sectors. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, attending Mauritius’ National Day celebrations as the chief guest, unveiled “MAHASAGAR” — “Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions” — expanding India’s SAGAR policy to enhance security and development across the Indian Ocean.
The pacts focus on cross-border trade in national currencies, combating money laundering, and supporting MSMEs. Modi also announced India’s assistance in building Mauritius’ new Parliament and modernising its water pipeline system. Additionally, initiatives like the “Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation” were inaugurated.
India reaffirmed its support for Mauritius’ sovereignty over the Chagos Islands and pledged cooperation in maritime security, including a new Coast Guard facility and police academy. The nations aim to deepen ties across trade, technology, and cultural exchanges.
