India and Belgium held talks to boost trade relations, focusing on sectors like renewable energy, life sciences, and digital tech.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met with Belgian Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Bernard Quintin in Brussels to strengthen bilateral trade and investment relations. The discussions highlighted the significant economic ties between the nations, with trade reaching $15.07 billion in 2023-2024 and Belgian FDI into India standing at $3.94 billion.
Both sides emphasised diversifying trade partnerships and collaborating in renewable energy, life sciences, infrastructure, and digital technologies. The progress of the EU-India Free Trade Agreement was reviewed, with a focus on resolving regulatory challenges in pharmaceuticals and agri-product approvals.
The ministers committed to enhancing mechanisms to address trade issues and fostering a sustainable partnership. Goyal also engaged with European business leaders from sectors like maritime services, green hydrogen, and clean technology, reinforcing India’s dynamic economy as a key trade partner for Belgium.
