MoPSW backs IIT Bombay’s Rs. 46 lakh projects to convert dredged sediments into valuable construction aggregates, promoting sustainability.
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW) has approved a research proposal titled “Valorization of Dredged Sediments” by IIT Bombay, estimated at Rs. 46.47 lakhs. This three-year project aims to transform dredged sediments, often considered waste, into valuable aggregates for construction, address environmental concerns, and promote resource efficiency.
The 45th Research Committee Meeting, chaired by the Additional Secretary of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, thoroughly discussed and recommended the proposal. Following this, the Ministry officially sanctioned the project, recognising its potential benefits for sustainable development and environmental conservation.
By converting dredged sediments into construction aggregates, this research project not only tackles environmental issues but also enhances resource utilisation. MoPSW continues to support innovative projects and collaborations with leading institutions like IIT Bombay, aiming to foster sustainable and efficient solutions in the maritime sector.
