Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport’s domestic cargo terminal has seen substantial activity over the last three months, according to an official release. The terminal managed both inbound and outbound cargo, totaling approximately 1,000 metric tonnes. This includes handling 146 tons of cargo in June, 411 tons in July, and 426 tons in August.
While the current state-of-the-art terminal spans 550 square meters, there are plans to construct a new international cargo terminal building in the works. The region, particularly Assam and the northeast, holds significant untapped potential for perishable air cargo.
Beyond staples like rice, tea, and orchids, the area boasts unique products with global market appeal.
Guwahati Airport and the Assam government are working together to cultivate a cargo market that could boost economic prospects for local residents in the region, further connecting them to global markets from Dubai to Singapore.
