The government plans to bid out six to seven multi-modal logistics parks (MMLP) in the next financial year, 2023-24, drawing an investment of ₹700 to 1,000 crores. The government planned to bid out four MMLPs in the financial year 2023, of which Reliance Industries has won Chennai for ₹783 crores and Indore by GR Infraprojects for ₹758 crores. The Bengaluru MMLP is expected to be awarded by the end of March 2023. These parks have easy access to commercial hubs and rank high in the Logistics Efficiency Enhancement Programme (LEEP) index.
Senior Road, Transport, and Highways Ministry officials confirmed the news. They shared the plan to develop around 15 infrastructure projects over 200 kilometres to bridge the road-based port connectivity gap and lower the logistics costs. ₹75,000 crores have been allocated to develop 100 such infrastructure projects in the upcoming fiscal under PM Gati Shakti Master Plan.
The National Logistics Policy, launched in September 2022, aims to lower the logistics cost to single digits from the current 13-14 per cent of the GDP. For this purpose, the government is supporting infrastructural development across the nation, including road and rail connectivity and the development of MMLPs.
