Bengal boosts logistics with industry status, land for new corridor, aiming at jobs and investments.

In a decisive push for growth, the West Bengal cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has granted industry status to the logistics sector, a move expected to make the state a more competitive hub for industrial and commercial activity.
Officials said the decision is aimed at attracting fresh investments and generating large-scale employment at a time when Bengal is actively pitching itself as a business-friendly destination. Tourism was previously given industry status in the state.
In another major step, the cabinet approved the transfer of 200 acres of land to the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC). The land will be used for the proposed Tajpur–Dankuni–Raghunathpur economic corridor, a mega project set to catalyze industrial growth across multiple districts.
Sources confirmed the corridor will provide major employment opportunities while strengthening Bengal’s role in India’s emerging logistics and industrial network.
