Uber introduces Courier XL in India, expanding its logistics service for packages up to 750kg. Initially in Delhi NCR and Mumbai, it uses 3- and 4-wheelers.

Uber has launched Courier XL in India, a significant expansion of its logistics service aimed at facilitating the delivery of large and heavy packages. The new service, as reported by The Economic Times, allows for the transportation of items weighing up to 750 kg.
Courier XL utilises a fleet of 3- and 4-wheeled goods carriers, providing a fast, reliable, and tech-enabled delivery experience through the Uber app. The service has been initially rolled out in Delhi NCR and Mumbai, with plans to extend its availability to more cities across India in the coming months. This move is part of Uber’s broader strategy to strengthen its courier offerings and establish a stronger presence in the large-package delivery market.
Courier XL builds upon the existing success of Uber’s two-wheeler parcel service, Uber Courier, by catering to the needs of users who require the transportation of larger items. This includes items such as furniture, bulk inventory, and other heavy parcels, addressing a gap in the current delivery ecosystem.
The service is specifically targeted towards small businesses and households, offering key features designed to enhance convenience and efficiency. These features include real-time tracking, upfront pricing, on-demand availability, and seamless app-based booking, making the process of sending large items more accessible and tech-savvy.
Uber Courier’s usage data has revealed several interesting trends in package delivery habits across India. The most popular time for sending packages is between 12 PM and 1 PM, a trend likely driven by lunch deliveries to both homes and offices. Notably, in Delhi NCR, a significant portion of deliveries, nearly 10%, occur after 11 PM, indicating a demand for late-night delivery services. On a national level, the busiest days for sending packages are Monday through Wednesday, suggesting a strong start to the work week for courier activity.
India’s logistics sector is currently experiencing rapid evolution, and Uber Courier is emerging as a key player in this transformation. In 2024, the average delivery distance for Uber Courier was 11 km. However, Delhi NCR and Mumbai recorded slightly longer average delivery distances, at 14 km and 12 km, respectively, highlighting the demand for more extensive intra-city logistics solutions in these major metropolitan areas. The range of deliveries varies widely, from ultra-short trips, such as a 750-metre delivery in Chennai, to significantly long hauls, including a 134 km delivery within the Delhi NCR region, demonstrating the versatility of the service.
Shiva Shailendran, Director – Consumer & Growth, Uber India South Asia, stated, “Courier XL is our answer to a growing demand from users – especially small businesses and households – who need a reliable way to move heavier goods across the city. Whether it’s inventory, furniture, or large parcels, we’re making big moves simpler and smarter.”
