Gujarat’s chemicals, textile industries foresee export growth to the U.S. under Trump.
Following Donald Trump’s presidential victory, Gujarat’s chemicals and textiles industries are optimistic about increased exports to the United States. Industry analysts suggest that Trump’s administration may focus on curbing Chinese imports, which could present an opportunity for Indian exporters.
According to Chemexcil, U.S. chemical imports from India, the leading buyer of Indian chemicals, amounted to $2.86 billion in 2023-24, marking a 26 percent decrease from the previous year. Ankit Patel, Chemexcil’s northern region chairman, emphasised Gujarat’s strong position in dyes production, with the U.S. as a key market. He anticipates that the Trump administration’s trade policies could substantially benefit Gujarat’s chemicals industry and foster technology transfer from American firms.
Similarly, Gujarat’s textile sector anticipates growth, particularly in home textile exports. Rahul Shah from the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry noted that Trump’s policies might prompt U.S. companies to establish operations in India, bypassing China. Industry experts further noted that a stronger dollar could enhance Indian exports’ global competitiveness, boosting Gujarat’s share in the chemicals and textiles markets.
