Indian economist highlights new export opportunities with Trump’s U.S. victory.
Indian economist Suriya Narayan expressed optimism on Thursday about the impact of Donald Trump’s recent U.S. presidential win on India’s export sector. Narayan highlighted that Trump’s proposed tariff on Chinese goods, reportedly set at over 60 percent, opens significant opportunities for Indian exports, particularly in agro and pharmaceutical sectors.
Narayan noted, “India stands to gain in various economic sectors. The high duty on Chinese goods allows India a stronger foothold in the U.S. market.” He added that India’s top position in exporting pharmaceuticals could be further strengthened under Trump’s administration, as close ties between Prime Minister Modi and Trump are expected to positively influence bilateral trade.
Narayan also discussed potential effects on the European economy, referencing Trump’s commitment to mediating the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The economist suggested that peace in Europe would boost global stability, benefiting Indian exports in arms and agro commodities as trade shifts away from China.
