WFS has appointed Thomas Schurmann as the new Managing Director of Frankfurt Cargo Services, with the former Etihad Airways cargo operations head set to take up the role in April 2026.

Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has announced the appointment of Thomas Schurmann as Managing Director Germany of its subsidiary Frankfurt Cargo Services (FCS), effective April 2026. Schurmann joins from Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi, where he served as Head of Cargo Operations and Delivery, overseeing the airline’s global cargo network across more than 80 international stations.
Schurmann brings over 20 years of international management and cargo operations experience to the role, including earlier positions at Flughafen Dusseldorf Cargo GmbH. His combined airline and ground handling background is expected to strengthen FCS’s customer proposition at Frankfurt Airport.
Current FCS Managing Director Claus Wagner will remain with the group, transitioning to the role of Managing Director of WFS Frankfurt, where he will focus on developing the company’s freight forwarding and e-commerce handling services. In January, WFS commenced operations across two warehouses and office buildings on a 24,000 sq m site within Cargo City South, with capacity to process around 100,000 tonnes of freight annually.
“With the appointment of Thomas Schurmann, we have significantly strengthened our already outstanding team in Frankfurt and are strongly positioned to achieve our ambitious goals at this important cargo hub,” said John Batten, CEO of WFS Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia. “I am convinced that Claus Wagner is the right person to decisively advance our new freight forwarding and e-commerce business in Frankfurt.”
